Writing Tip of the Week
Welcome (or Welcome Back)
As you begin the semester, don't forget that the Writing Resource Center is here to help you. Here are seven tips for using the Center:
1. We're here for everyone!
Whether you're a first-semester student looking for help on a paper or a 3rd- year student trying to polish your writing sample -- we're here to help.
2. We can help with all your writing needs!
You don't need to be working on a paper to visit the WRC. Maybe you have a quick grammar question. Maybe you need to write more persuasively. Or maybe you need help transitioning from college writing to legal writing. Whatever your writing concerns, we can help.
3. You can visit the WRC once -- or once a week!
How often you use the WRC is up to you. Students often find it helpful to visit the WRC several times while writing a single paper. Other students make steady appointments to work on grammar or other writing issues. Feel free to make as many weekly appointments as you'd like.
4. We welcome walk-ins!
How's that for alliteration? (Don't know what alliteration is? Stop by and find out.) When we're not busy with other students, we invite you to stop in with your quick writing questions. At times, last-minute appointments are also available. Check the sign-up sheets across from Room 613.
5. Sign up early and often!
We get very busy when papers are due. Make sure you sign up for appointments as soon as you are able. But please don't forget-- you need to cancel any appointments you can't keep.
6. Now's the time to work on writing samples!
We typically have open appointments the first week or two of the semester. If you need help with your resume or writing sample, visit us now -- before we (and you) get too busy.
7. Attend a workshop
Here's a tentative workshop schedule for this semester. Some dates may change. Check your JMLS e-mail for exact times, rooms, registration, etc.
