Definitions
RSS:
RSS stands for “really simple syndication.” It allows you to subscribe to pages or areas of web sites that contain information in which you are interested in receiving in your RSS aggregator, or reader. If you subscribe to an RSS feed, any time information is updated, you will receive the updates automatically in your RSS aggregator.
RSS Feed:
An RSS feed is a news “channel” that web sites push out to the public, to allow them to subscribe to their information and receive it in their aggregators, or readers.
RSS Aggregator:
RSS aggregators, or readers, allow you to pick and choose information you need to keep informed in areas that interest you. Rather than surfing the web and visiting sites of interest, or receiving newsletter subscriptions, you can receive all of your web site updates in one place, on your desktop, any time you choose. Many free RSS aggregators exist, and there are many you can pay for, as well. Popular free aggregators include RSS Reader, Newsburst, Newsgator, MyYahoo!, and GoogleReader.
