CLE for Faculty
Illinois attorneys are required to complete 20 hours of CLE activity during the initial two-year reporting period. The reporting period is determined by the attorney’s last name.
Attorneys with last names A – M: reporting period is July 1, 2006 to June 30, 2008 Attorneys with last names N – Z: reporting period is July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2009
In the following two year period, 24 hours of CLE activity will be required. All subsequent two year periods require 30 hours of CLE activity.
Professional Responsibility Requirement - Attorneys must complete a minimum of 4 hours in any two-year period in the area of professionalism, diversity issues, mental illness and addiction issues, civility, or legal ethics.
Illinois attorneys can carry over up to 10 CLE hours from January 1, 2006.
Full-time Faculty Full time faculty may earn CLE credit for speaking at an approved CLE event, for judging a moot court competition, or for writing legal textbooks, casebooks, treatises and other scholarly legal books published during the reporting period.
Adjunct Faculty Teaching credit may be earned for teaching law courses offered for credit toward a degree at a law school accredited by the ABA, but only by lawyers who are not employed full-time by a law school. Adjunct faculty may also earn credit for speaking at an approved CLE event, for judging a moot court competition, or for writing legal textbooks, casebooks, treatises and other scholarly legal books published during the reporting period.
Guest Lecturers Attorneys may earn credit by appearing as a guest instructor or moderator in a law class.
