Come and meet the new leaders of the Student Chapter and learn about Structured Development's plans for the redevelopment of the 8.5 acre New City YMCA site located at the intersection of Halsted and Clybourn on Chicago's near north side from the Chapter members who attended the January meeting of Ely Chapter of Lambda Alpha International..

Site Visit to the Santa Fe Building

Location: 224 South Michigan Avenue
Meet in the building's lobby no later than 3:25 p.m.

Time: 3:30 to 5:00 p.m.

"Designed by Burnham in 1904, this building is considered to be a crown jewel of Chicago's gilded age of architecture and the epitome of an early skyscraper."  This site visit will consider some of the challenges faced by the owners and operators of an architecturally significant building.

Organized by the Center for Real Estate Law in partnership with CSO

Telling someone that you are a real estate attorney does not tell them very much about the work that you are doing for your real estate clients.  A real estate practice is not limited to the sale and purchaser of homes and condos for individual clients.  The Real Estate Attorneys that you will meet are all graduates of the LL.M Program.  Each serves a different group of clients and has a practice which focuses on different aspects of real estate law.

"Building Your Professional Portfolio - An Essential Tool for a 21st Century Career" a presentation by Dr. Margot B. Weinstein brought to The John Marshall Law School by its Centers for Excellence

In today's competitive marketplace, a professional portfolio has become one of the most effective tools that you can use to showcase direct evidence of your qualifications and abilities when you either start searching for your first position after receiving your degree, or when looking for a new position. 

Dr. Weinstein's presentation will help you to answer these questions and enable you to begin building your own professional portfolio:

  • 1. What are the purpose/objectives/characteristics of a professional portfolio?
  • 2. How do you start to create your portfolio?
  • 3. Is it a formal or informal paper document on paper or is something kept on your computer?
  • 4. How you use your portfolio to improve your interviews?

"Ethics for the Lawyer Involved in Real Estate Transactions" presented by Wendy Muchman and moderated by Professor Celeste M. Hammond.

Wendy Muchman is a senior counsel and group manager at the Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission of the Supreme Court of Illinois where she investigates and prosecutes lawyer disciplinary cases. She teaches legal ethics at Northwestern University School of Law as a member of its adjunct faculty.

The Legacy at Millennium Park is a 73 story luxury residential tower with both condominium apartments and a small retail component on the first floor.  The entrance will be located at 60 East Monroe.  The project, being undertaken by Mesa Development, was made possible as a result of unique partnerships between the Developer and the Art Institute of Chicago and the University Club of Chicago.

This two day event will give students a top to bottom real estate experience that will advance their understanding of the real estate industry and provide them with an opportunity to network with industry leaders.
