Joint JD/LLM Program
|
John Marshall students interested in pursuing an LL.M. degree in International Business and Trade Law may apply to become a joint J.D./LL.M. candidate. J.D. students who have completed 29 credit hours in the J.D. program with a minimum GPA of 3.0 may apply to the joint degree program. Applicants should be able to show a demonstrated interest in international law through undergraduate and graduate coursework, overseas study/work experience, foreign language ability, etc. The Center recommends that interested students take Law 084 International Trade Law, Law 130 Corporations, Law 190 International Business Transactions, Law 250 Administrative Law and Law 245 Sales Transactions prior to taking international courses at the LL.M. level.
Students accepted into the joint degree program are permitted to apply up to the first 10 credits of LL.M. degree coursework toward the 90 credits required for the J.D. degree. These 10 hours must come from the student's allotment of elective hours. Most J.D. students accepted into the joint degree program begin taking LL.M. courses during their third year of law school.
Joint degree students, in most cases, will be able to complete the requirements of both programs with 104 credit hours (80 J.D. + 24 LL.M.). Joint degree students profit from taking classes with lawyers from a variety of backgrounds and practice experiences, both from the United States and overseas.
